چکیده

This paper presents the architecture and design of an enhanced VoIP gateway, which is based on the H.323 protocol. The key characteristics of this gateway include: scalability separating signaling from media transformation and use of protocols such as MGCP/MEGACO for the communication between signaling part and media gateway; lightweight by using SCTP transport protocol to convey H.323 and MGCP/MEGACO signaling and QoS support through the control of the voice encoding of the VoIP connections. This control is accomplished by estimating the network load and enforces the voice connections to modify the encoding scheme according to the estimated network load. Indexing Terms: IP Telephony, VoIP, H.323

A lightweight and scalable VoIP platform based on MGCP/H.323 interworking and QoS management capabilities

This paper presents a lightweight VoIP platform based on H.323/MGCP interworking and QoS capabilities. The lightweight feature is accomplished by introducing two new schemes in the platform; the use of the SCTP as a transport protocol and the use of the Compressed-RTP as a compressed implementation of the RTP. The MGCP/H.323 interworking provides the platform with the essential scalability so t...

An Integrated Call Agent of the Coveraged VoIP Network

The traditional circuit-switched telecommunication network and the packet-switched data network are converging to a single packet-switched network. One important application of the converged network is telephony communications, also referred to as VoIP (Voice over IP). Call signaling protocols, such as H.323, SIP and MGCP, have been developed to support VoIP communications. To enable devices us...

Patterns for VoIP Signaling Protocol Architectures

Voice over IP (VoIP) is an alternative to traditional circuit-switched telephony that allows human voice and video to travel over existing packet data networks along with traditional data packets. H.323 and SIP are the two standard protocols used today for signaling and call control in VoIP, and they are essential for providing total access and for supporting IP-based services. In order to prov...

Interworking Between SIP/SDP and H.323

There are currently two standards for signaling and control of Internet telephone calls, namely ITU-T Recommendation H.323 and the IETF Session Initiation Protocol (SIP). We describe how a signaling gateway can allow SIP user agents to call H.323 terminals and vice versa. Our solution addresses user registration, call sequence mapping and session description. We also describe and compare variou...
